Return to the Blue Lagoon (1991) REVIEW - PG-13 | 1h 42min | Adventure, Drama, Romance

Return to the Blue Lagoon (1991)

PG-13 | 1h 42min | AdventureDramaRomance

We open the film with a ship finding the craft with our original characters in it, Richard and Emmeline dead and Paddy alive. Established in the first film, the only word Paddy ever says is "Richard", so the crew assumes Richard is the infant's name. Taken in by Sarah, a widow with an infant baby girl Lilli. Struck by cholera, the crew of the ship start to die and the captain sets Sarah, Richard, Lilli and a healthy crew member on a lifeboat in an attempt to preserve their lives. And so, the story begins.

I enjoyed the film.  I hate spoilers so I’ll leave you to watch it for yourself.  I recognized both actors, Richard from TV series Charmed and Lilli from Resident Evil movies.  Of course, they were much younger in this film.  Some will say this is unrealistic to which I say ‘of course’ but that’s not the point.  We enjoy movies to getaway from reality and dream and pretend and daydream as a respite and something to enjoy together and talk about.  If someone mentions, ‘It’s a Wonderful Life’ or ‘ELF’ or ‘The Greatest Showman’ and you’ve also seen those films you immediately have something in common and can discuss it and build from there.  If you never read a book or watch a movie you severely limit yourself because normal day to day living can only take you so far.  But reading or a film can take us to other worlds in an instant and back again safely.  We all need diversions regardless of what they are.  Sports, outdoor adventures, sailing, dance, flying, a theme park, traveling with a friend or spouse, picnics & parties, and the list is endless.

I found the film quite moving at times.  Here is one quote I liked:

Richard: I feel like crying.

Lilli: So do I.

Richard: I want us to be husband and wife.

Lilli: Yes. Always.

[they kiss passionately]
