Somewhere in Queens 2022 REVIEW
1h 46m
Starring: Ray Romano,
Laurie Metcalf, Jacob Ward
Genre: Drama
Leo (Romano) and Angela
(Metcalf) Russo live a simple, blue-collar life in Queens, surrounded by family.
- Quote:
- Angela Russo:
Name one thing that kid does, we don't know about.
- Leo Russo:
Well, how am I supposed to name it If we don't know about it?
It rivals Moonstruck and
Brooklyn; The real deal with family secrets, how they come to the surface and cause
drama. Some families crumble and others
become stronger.
If you let yourself you find
yourself in the film somewhere depending on your age. Shows generational dynamics that is really
moving.
Wonderful soundtrack which adds to feeling you get and nice
for new generations to hear the old stuff.
Many references to Rocky film, which if you’re young
and haven’t seen it will add much to your enjoyment of this film. So watch Rocky before seeing this film. I mean it.
Feast of the Seven Fishes 2019 REVIEW so good!
Feast of the
Seven Fishes
2019 1h 39m
Starring: Skyler Gisondo, Madison Iseman
Genre: Light hearted
drama, Romantic
Days before Christmas 1983, the Oliverio family readies
their the Feast of the Seven Fishes. Come inside, where become part of the
family.
I imagine you’ll fall in love with this film like we
did. In spite of all their flaws and
quirks, they manage to pull off a family tradition of the Christmas Eve feast,
while drama abounds in this small town. Character
development is vital for me to enjoy a film and this one delivers. Fun and
engaging.

Family Switch 2023 PG 1h 46m REVIEW 7/10
Comedy, Family
Starring: Jennifer Garner, Ed Helms, Emma Myers
Don’t pay attention to
bad reviews those critics are twits, its fun and entertaining and moving. Switching of bodies has been done a lot, but this
is fresh take on it. I actually think it
gets bad reviews because its wholesome and family friendly. Evil exists and it
hates this kind of stuff that can actually make someone smile or laugh and
forget their troubles for two seconds.
Even the best movies of all time like Casablanca or Elf get tiresome if you
watch then too much.
We were having a bad year
so we said you know why not. It's was fun and easy to watch. It actually
invoked emotional responses.
It was clever role play reversal of mom, dad
and the kids attempt at finding themselves in each other’s bodies like in the
other movies ‘Freaky Friday & the Change-up’.
Hilarious treat
featuring a team of actors who undoubtedly had a blast together filming
it.
The Kid 2000 PG 1h 44m Starring: Bruce Willis REVIEW 9/10
The Kid
Starring: Bruce Willis, Spencer Breslin, and Emily Mortimer
Genre: Comedy,
Family, Fantasy
Russ Duritz (Bruce
Willis) who is about to turn 40 finds himself: cynical, dogless, chickless,
estranged from his father & has no memories of his childhood. Jon
Turtletaub has made such a precious film about a guy named Russel. Someone arrives
at his house and he has to figure out why. Spencer Breslin is fun to watch interacting
with Bruce. This is a wonderful story
and a gripping tale that relates to everyone.
Don't write it off as just another family movie thinking that you'll be able to
predict the whole storyline.
Toward the end you will suddenly sit up, brain firing, and
when you figure it all out, you realize u have this funny grin on your face and
are thinking ‘holy smokes’!

No Hard Feelings 2023 1h 43m REVIEW (7/10)

30 something Maddie is in financial trouble and sees an
interesting job listing: wealthy parents looking for someone to bring their son
out of his shell before he goes off to college. Reminiscent of Animal House & a good romantic
comedy -- the cast nails it. What a
novel idea getting to know a person instead of having sex with random
strangers. We all know a Maddie and/or Percy in our lives. The solo at the
piano you will really enjoy! The water
scene surprised me and I thought it ironic that the people who started it felt
ill used. Classic of people who can dish
it out but are amazed when someone actually gives it back in spades. She gave them what they deserved and I loved
it. Lots of laughs and maybe a little
over the top at times, but I enjoyed it.
I’ve seen thousands of movies and it kept me engaged.

After a disastrous first date,
Nicole and Max end up connected again due to their dogs. Hilariously mismatched Nicole and Max share
this pet journey that keeps me entertained.
Both characters are irritating at times, but somehow it works. The show is fun and Grant
is really convincing as a character with social anxiety. Having seen so
many movies if I enjoy the film it means something.
The Holdovers 2023 R 2h 13m Drama Review (8/10)
2023 R 2h 13m Drama
A cranky history teacher at a prep school is forced to remain
on campus over the holidays with a troubled student who has no place to
go. Nobody likes teacher Paul Hunham
(Giamatti) -- not his students, not his fellow faculty, not the headmaster, who
all find his rigidity exasperating. Set in 1970, a 15-year-old named Angus, a
good student whose bad behavior does him no favors. Joining Paul and Angus
(Sessa), is cook Mary (Randolph) who caters to them. These three very different shipwrecked people
form an unlikely Christmas family sharing time in cold New England. This is a
joy in the journey film where this trio come to understand that they are not slaves
to their past.
We've all had that teacher who just seemed to thrive on
making students miserable. While passing out
The Holdovers is a warm-hearted film, with no flashy editing
just an F+ to make you laugh. You’ll understand if you watch it. I think this film has something everyone can
relate to on some level. A coming-of-age
theme both my wife and I really enjoyed it.
R rating is due to drugs and language.

The Storied Life of A.J. Fikry 2022 PG-13 Review (9/10)
The Storied Life of A.J. Fikry 2022 PG-13
Starring Kunal Nayyar and Lucy
Hale
1h 45m
Based on a novel bookstore
owner A.J. Fikry's life is not turning out as he expected as he struggles both
emotionally and financially. After his wife's death, he feels lost and left
behind. He tries to keep his store afloat, but begins to drink & ultimately
hits rock bottom when his most prized possession is stolen. But when a
mysterious package appears at his store it changes everything. Kunal Nayyar and Lucy Hale are great together
and this is a more serious role for Kunal and he’s amazing. I’ve heard the book is even better but have
not read it.
I enjoyed the way it was
edited and it’s just an overall enjoyable film.
Nice to get away from the typical crime and violence or action movies
sometimes. I hope u enjoy it as much as
my wife and I did.

Greyhound 2020 PG-13 Review 10/10
Greyhound 2020 PG-13
1 hr 31m
Drama, war, action
Starring Tom Hanks
Based on book "The
Good Shepherd" by C S Forester,
Story of an Allied convoy in
the Atlantic during WWII facing attack, cold, brutal seas, and darkness. Part of the journey the convoy must be
without air support and this is the focus of the movie. Captain Krause the leader of the convoy's
destroyer screen is a US Navy commander on his first Atlantic crossing. It’s a
true story deeply moving and should be mandatory viewing in all our high
schools. I was struck by the discipline
of the crew and I served 23 years in the US Air Force. I thought to myself where do you find such
men. I also thought that no amount of
training could prepare you for such situations.
But obviously no training would have ensured all their deaths. Watching the movie and knowing of what
happened because of the survivors is one thing.
Actually, being those men and doing it and being on those ships is
another. God bless all those who serve
and their families. I deeply appreciated
the director not cutting out spiritual side of the captain as so many films
do. Also, the director didn’t neglect
the importance of having someone back home to hold onto while you are in the
thick of battle. Afterall its why we as
a nation fought for freedom – our families and friends and a way of life and
the freedom to worship the God who gave us life. Its not lost on me that it’s the same
motivation that brought the Mayflower to the American shores so long ago. I wonder if they teach that in schools
anymore. Read the mayflower compact if
you doubt me. These things are sacred
and worth fighting and dying for if necessary. The Bible that speaks of love
and forgiveness also says there is a time for war. I for one don’t miss the connection between
what these men did and my freedom’s to even write this review on my computer. Some nations in our world of 2023 do not have
that right. Think about it. We dare not lose what these great men so
bravely fought and died for. I’ll get
off my soapbox now.
